PURPOSE

The Head of Commercial Exploration provides leadership of all Commercial activities (including Title Management) globally in Exploration. The key role purpose is to coordinate the delivery of new third party agreements on early stage exploration opportunities to the business supporting the discovery pipeline of early stage exploration projects, to facilitate operations outside the countries of operations and to support the maintenance of existing mineral title in the specified region.

The role is responsible for commercial inputs to the Title Strategy, Title Acquisition, Title Management; and Contractor,Partner Management elements and new country entry of Copper Exploration. In Exploration, the role supports, and works closely with, the Heads of Country Exploration, Generative

The role provides assurance to VP Copper Exploration, that title and partner management in the region complies with required standards through appropriate measurement, reporting and targeted audits. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate key leadership and support within the specified region.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.

  • Leads and directly manages any Specialist Commercial, Superintendent International Operations and Superintendent Title Management, roles based within the region;

  • Provides specialist functional exploration agreement support to Exploration function globally;

  • Oversees title management support provided to the Exploration function in the region to assist the Exploration function with delivering on its accountabilkities for title management;

  • Ensures preparation and maintainance of appropriate commercial risk overlays (mineral title, fiscal, country risk, general commercial) to enable Focus Area Selection;

  • Provides inputs to the development of Investment Approval Requests where commercial arrangements are required, including the development of appropriate negotiation envelopes and tactics;

  • Leads or participates in negotiations to secure acceptable commercial terms;

  • Provides inputs to the development of Title Strategies;

  • Ensures appropriate commercial agreements are executed, amended or revoked to enable access to mineral title, aligned with approved Title Strategies;

  • Provides specialist functional expertise to support land access, title application, maintenance and relinquishment activities;

  • Is responsible for developing and maintaining specialist commercial functional specialist capability in the region through talent identification, mentoring and coaching;

  • Ensures that preparation, execution and monitoring of commercial and exploration agreements complies with the requirements of the relevant Business Critical documents;

  • Builds and maintains a network of regional industry and government contacts;

REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Professional degree in Commerce/ Economics/Finance/Geoscience

  • 10 years experience in managing commercial agreements for big projects or investments.

  • Experience in working in diverse geographical areas/cultures is desirable

  • Knowledge of regional exploration market is highly desirable but not excluding

  • English speaking mandatory. Spanish an asset.
